50km for Vương – Run for Blue Dragon
I met Vương 10 years ago, not long after I first moved to Vietnam. From the beginning, he was so open and patient in trying to teach me Vietnamese Sign Language, and over the years we shared so many fun afternoons together, from pedalling the swan boats around Trúc Bạch Lake to running through the mountains of Sóc Sơn.
Vương passed away a few months ago, and in between the intense missing, I have been thinking about how I could do something meaningful to honour him.
When I first met Vương, swimming was a huge passion of his. In more recent years, he took up running, and eventually, I joined him. Last year, we ran our first 26km trail race together in Pù Luông. It was a special experience and a memory that means even more to me now.
This year, I have decided to return to Pù Luông and take on the 50km race in Vương's honour.
Alongside honoring Vương, I want this challenge to support Blue Dragon Children's Foundation, an organisation that supported Vương and his family for many years, from when he was a young child.
Blue Dragon works with children, young people and families across Vietnam, providing support including education, shelter, social work and legal assistance, while also working to prevent human trafficking and exploitation.
My goal is to raise $2,000 USD (approximately 52 million VND) for Blue Dragon in Vương's memory. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help support their work with children, young people and families across Vietnam.
Every donation, big or small, will go towards Blue Dragon's work supporting children and families across Vietnam.
